I wanted to make our sensory table go along with our Easter activities so I put in Easter grass and an assortment of eggs, opened. I also tossed in a handful of Easter erasers. The children could sort and put the egg halves back together for math and fine motor skills. They could also hide an eraser inside and let a friend search out the hidden egg treasure. Counting the eggs was also fun. I tried to encourage sorting the eggs by type (sports, solids, etc.) but it didn't seem to interest my group.
Since we are a privately owned, Christian-directed daycare, we are allowed to teach Bible to our students. About once a week we'll do a simple, non-denominational Bible story. Our story was the Biblical account of Easter. After we read it, we made a batch of Resurrection Rolls.
To make a roll, you put a marshmallow (Jesus) into the center of the tomb (opened crescent roll), and sprinkle cinnamon onto the marshmallow to represent the spices that were used in Biblical burials. Roll up the crescent roll dough around the marshmallow and bake on a cookie sheet at 350 for ten minutes or so.
When the rolls are cool, bite in for a surprise....the tomb is empty! Jesus has risen!
We made tissue paper eggs. No glue required; just spritz the construction paper egg patterns with a water bottle and push the tissue paper squares onto the egg. Then spritz with water as needed until tissue is adhered.
We went on a playground egg hunt. What fun!
After our egg hunt, we had a lunch time party with all sorts of yummy goodies.
